Here are a few tips to help you find a little peace and joy through the holiday season and beyond (You are invited to add your own comments and tips in the Comments section below):
- Give back. Choose a volunteer activity with friends and/or family. There are many opportunities to help others. Google “volunteer opportunities”and see what comes up. In the Twin Cities,we have HandsOn Twin Cities:http://www.handsontwincities.org/
- Reach out to an old friend and reconnect. There are many ways to reach out. Here are a few ideas:
- Send a card.
- Make a phone call.
- Write a letter.
- Create a memory page or short booklet to share.
- Do something for yourself. In this time of shopping and getting gifts for others,be sure to include yourself.
- Take a reading break.
- Give yourself the gift of a massage.
- Go on a date –with just you. Do something you really enjoy that you don’t often do.
- STOP. Stop doing and chasing for a short time. Spend time with yourself just being who you are at your heart and soul level. Reflection will provide direction.
- Give the gift of a smile and show appreciation when you are out at stores and other places.
- Write a love letter –to yourself. Read that daily between now and the end of the year.
