With summer come storms. Last weeks lightening was bad enough to knock the power out of 19 homes in our neighborhood. Or so the recording at the power company phone line said. At first I was okay with it assuming it would be just a fixed in a few hours and the power would be back. Wrong. At that time the recording said it wouldn’t be back for at least three more days. I was VERY concerned about the freezer full of food and possibility of losing it all if we didn’t do something soon. Aside from that,we are both out of work and I had a couple things ‘cooking’that might require internet follow-up. I was caught up in anxiety over the situation.

We found a friend who lent us a generator. While my husband and sons were setting it up,I found it an excuse to head to a local coffee shop with air conditioning and wi-fi. I wanted to update statuses on work and family related social media sites.

On the way home my heart touched. You see,the power effected one side of our street and not the other. As I drove up our street,I noticed a bunch of orange lines crossing the street. A half dozen or so of the houses had power extension cords crossing from one side to the other. Those lines displayed care and community. Those extension cords softened my heart and renewed my faith. They lifted my spirit and brought a warm smile to my face.

summer activities is being outside, and working in the flower bed. Ones are out walking, usually with their dog and stop to chat a while. The time spent is relaxing, and I find myself “one with….”. Always a special treat when a butterfly comes and rests gently on a bloom.

My Favorite Summer Activity is going to Church camp with my friends at church and my immediate family. You really get to know other people better when you sleep in the same room with them. We always have fun at the lake and do team building activities. And of course,we have a guest pastor come and teach us exciting things. We will be going this week on Thursday.
